Here we have an Ear Warmer crochet pattern very close to my heart! While visiting my mom in November, I designed this crochet pattern, so this is a big shout out to her to thank her for all the love and support she gives me. I truly feel like I have the BEST mom in the world! Living really far away from her is hard, so I always cherish every moment I have with her. Love you mom!! 🙂

I can’t even begin to describe how easy this crochet ear warmer pattern is! But I’ll try! 🙂 So here we have a crochet pattern that consists only of single and double crochet. This specific stitch I used is called the Grit Stitch. It almost looks like the corner to corner stitch, but believe me, it’s so much easier!

The Detail of the Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

This crochet pattern consists only of single and double crochet! What?! The Grit stitch, makes this ear warmer soft and squishy. Using the single crochet and double crochet in the same stitch, creates a look that resembles the corner to corner stitch. But it’s WAY easier!

Can I adjust the size of the Ear Warmer crochet pattern?

Yes you can! I make it my mission for you to be able to adjust the pattern to fit your needs. This pattern is written for an average size woman’s head. But to adjust the size, you can measure along the top of your head, from ear to ear, and then crochet the first half (Row 1 to 17) to that measurement. Then, measure around your head for your head measurement and continue to the second part of the pattern.

Keep in mind, if you are adjusting, to always measure as you go to ensure you are not making the piece to big or small to fit your measurements. 🙂

What size yarn do I need?

I used #3 Stylecraft Special DK in the color Vintage Peach for the tutorial. Around about 32g. So you will be able to make two out of one 100g ball of yarn! How neat is that?!

The blue Ear Warmer is made out of Kismet Lollipop Twinkle Double Knit in color Aqua and the white Ear Warmer is made out of Kismet Lollipop Double Knit in the color White.

Grit Stitch Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

This pattern is written in US Terms

Patten Level:

Easy & Beginner Friendly

Materials:

Ch = Chain
Sc = Single crochet
Dc = Double crochet

Rep = Repeat

Gauge:

10cm / 4″ square In Grit Stitch = 8sts x 16rows

Finished Size:

Width x Length: 11.5cm / 4.5” x 50cm / 19.5”

Head Measurement: 58cm / 22.83” (Average woman size)

Measurement form ear to ear: 40cm / 15.72”

Notes:

This crochet ear warmer is worked flat and sewn together at the end.
Tip for rows 4-18: Take care to work the last stitch into the turning chain on each row to maintain stitch count and keep the edge straight.
If you need to make adjustments (bigger or smaller) to the pattern, measure over your head, from ear to ear and make the Grit Stitch pattern to that size. Make sure to crochet your start chain in multiple of 2sts + 3.

Grit Stitch Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern:

Foundation Chain: ch73

R1: 1sc in 2^nd ch from your hook, 1sc in each ch across the chain, ch1, turn. (72)

R2: 1sc in nxt 2sts, * sk 1st, (1sc, 1dc) into nxt st, rep from * to last 2st, sk 2^nd to last sc, 1sc into last st, turn. (72)

R3: ch1, 1dc into 1^st st, *sk 1dc of previous row, (1sc, 1dc) into nxt sc, rep from * to last 2 sts, sk 1sc, 1sc into last st, turn. (72)

TIP: Take care to work the last st into the turning chain on each row to maintain stitch count and keep the edge straight.

R4: ch1, 1dc into 1^st st, * sk 1dc, (1sc, 1dc) into nxt sc, rep from * to last st, sk 1dc, 1sc into tc, turn. (72)

Repeat R4 until you reach R18 or your piece measures 11cm / 4.33”.

R19: ch1, sc in each st across, ch1,turn to work on short side of your work.

Continue crocheting on the short side of your work:

R1: sc evenly along the the side, placing 1sc in the tc and 1sc in the sc of the previous row, ch1, turn. (18)

You should have around 18sc, if you followed the pattern above.

R2: sc in each st across, ch1, turn.

Repeat R2 until R16 or the entire piece measures 50cm / 19.5”.

At the end, finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Continue to the sewing portion of the pattern.

Sewing your ear warmer:

Attach you long tail to your tapestry needle.

Flip your ear warmer so the right side (front of work)is facing you. On the pics below you will see the difference in the front and back by looking at the foundation chain.

Now fold the ear warmer in half (with front side facing inward) and sew the short ends of the piece together using your favorite sewing method. I like using the whip stitch method. But it’s all up to you.
