The style of the Bandana
This crochet bandana is made up out of double crochets, chain 1 spaces and my favorite stitch at this moment, the puff stitch. I also worked some Picots in there that finishes the bandana quite beautifully.

Special stitches found in this pattern
If you’re new to puff stitches and picot stitches, here is a quick look at how to crochet them:
Puff stitch (5 loops):
Yarn over and insert your hook into the designated stitch/space, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on the hook) but make the loop longer than normal, yarn over and insert your hook again and pull up a loop (5loops on the hook), yarn over and insert your hook and pull up a loop – twice more (9 loops on the hook). Essentially you will be inserting your hook and pulling up a loop 4 times in total. Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops. Ch1 to secure the puff stitch and continue with the pattern.
Picot stitch:
You will place a picot stitch on top of the single crochet as the pattern calls for. To picot, CH3 and SLST into the 3rd ch from the hook and continue to the next stitch.

FAQ about this easy bandana pattern
Yes, it can! If you’d like to make a smaller version for a little girl, you can do so by following the pattern until row 9, measuring it (from ear to ear), and then moving on to finishing the bandana.
This pattern calls for a #3 DK weight yarn. I used Kismet Raeesah 100% cotton. I also tested this pattern using an Acrylic Aran weight yarn (the white bandana pictured above) and it came out a bigger but still beautiful.
I used a 4.5mm hook (US G/7) to crochet this beanie pattern. It’s always best to check your gauge before you continue crocheting the project.
For this pattern it’s quite simple to check the pattern gauge. Simply crochet the first 3 rows of the pattern and measure it from side to side. It should measure 8cm x 4cm / 3inch x 1½inch. If you measure more than that, go down a hook size. And if you measure more, then you need to go up a hook size.

- At the end of R15 DO NOT CUT YARN. Turn your work as to work on the side of your work and CH1. Move on to finishing the bandana.
Finishing and straps:
Top Border:
- Continuing from row 15, you will first crochet the top of the bandana by placing 2SC around each of the previous TC and DC and 2SC in the beginning CH. (62SC) This doesn’t need to be precise, as long as your work doesn’t curl. Do not finish off your yarn.
The left strap:
- CH31, SC in 2nd CH from hook and in the next 29 chains until you reach the bandana.
- I like crocheting in the back bumps of the chain (see blogpost for instructions), however if you’re not comfortable doing that then you can crochet into the chain as normal.
Bottom sides (left and right):
- You will now crochet around the bandana. Starting with the left side, working around the corner and down the right side.
- When finished with the strap, SC in 1st ST next to the chain. [CH3, SLST in base of CH3 – this is a PICOT ST]. * SC in next 3STS, PICOT ST on top of third SC made; REP from * around the entire bandana making sure to end in SC in the last ST.
The right strap:
- This strap is worked exactly the same as the left strap.
- CH31, SC in 2nd CH from hook and in the next 29 chains until you reach the bandana. SLST into the 1st SC of the round. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Weave in all yarn tails.
- And there you have it. Your finished Crochet Bandana!
